A well-established work regarding environmental education and nature
protection has been going on in our school for more than a decade. Our aim is to bring our students as close to nature as possible to get familiar with its
features and to protect it. This school year we apply for the Eternal Eco-school title. Our purpose is to create environmentally friendly behaviour with
our own examples.
We emphasize the following basic principles of environmental education:
- shaping and developing eco-thinking,
- maintainable development and teaching sustainability,
- the connections and relations between local and global stages,
- the help of environmental-conscious behaviour and lifestyle,
- biological and social variety,
- the ecological footprint.
The aim of environmental education:
- to encourage environmental-conscious behaviour and lifestyle responsible for the environment,
- emotional, intellectual, aesthetic and ethic establishment of manners respecting nature, the built and social environment and the human,
- becoming an environmental-conscious citizen who sees the global relationships.
For that we have to develop students’:
- environmental-conscious behaviour and lifestyle,
- environmental friendly and economical behaviour and lifestyle based on personal responsibility,
- affection and protection of natural and built surrounding, and preserving variety,
- need for healthy lifestyle, and acquirement of techniques and methods to achieve this.
The principles of environmental education and sustainability do not only succeed in teaching but also in the everyday life of the school.
Our eco-activities:
- The care of traditions, organizing and realizing open air schools,
- Organizing and realizing summer camps,
- Day of Birds and Trees
- Social studies with environment protection as the topic,
- School trips,
- organizing nature protection activities connected to special holidays,
- selective garbage collection,
- bottle cap collection,
- garbage collection (paper, glass, battery, fat),
- shrinking plastic bottles,
- using compost pile,
- looking after the school flower garden,
- cleaning the school yard,
- keeping clean the surrounding of public places near the school,
- cleaning the classrooms,
- changing or giving second hand toys, books and colouring books for family care centres and mothers’ home,
- organizing exhibitions,
- Lectures
- Organizing and participating in inter-school competitions,
- International Contacts -particiation in an eTwinning project in the topic: creative recycling.
We hope with these activities we can bring up our children as environment protecting and loving; and a healthy lifestyle living adults.
